Gas nitriding

Gas nitriding is a surface hardening method, suitable for steel parts requiring low friction, increased durability and increased fatigue strength.

The process is carried out at 500-530 ° C. The low temperature gives small dimensional changes. Processing times depend on the desired hardening depth (DN). Processing times between 12 and 60 hours are common. Gas nitriding is not suitable for high-alloy steels, such as tool steel and stainless steel. For these steels we recommend plasma nitriding. Hardness varies with the steel alloy content and composition.
